Information, information, information…we all get bombarded with it every day don’t we?
Emails, social media, websites, TV. So what information do your customers want from you as a business? What can you tell them that they will really find interesting and actually stop to read?
You can have a very active social media presence and a fantastic looking website, but if you are not giving your customers valuable and absorbing information, these will be a waste of time.
Studies show that many customers, especially the younger generations, are motivated by a company’s ethics. So use social media, your website and blogging to tell them where you stand on environmental issues, human rights issues etc. Tell them what you do to be environmentally friendly and what goals you have to improve this in the future. Talk about how you treat your employees, what charities you support and so on. All these kinds of things encourage customer loyalty so if you are doing something good, make sure you talk about it. Talking about these topics can also be a great way to interact with your audience and promote discussions online.
Offers. If you are running a promotion of any kind, your customers are sure to want to know about it. Plan any promotions in advance and make sure you remind your customers regularly in the run-up what discounts and offers are coming up and when. There is nothing more annoying than paying full price for something only to find out it was reduced by 20% the next day.
Tips and advice. Giving your customers free tips and advice that may save them money is a great way to encourage support of your brand or business. It doesn’t mean you are making your services redundant, it just gives your customers a reason to trust and respect you. An accountant can offer good money-saving advice or a vet can suggest ways to keep your pet healthy. If you give audiences something useful to read, they are much more likely to remember you when they do need you.
Personal information. We’re not saying you need to tell them your weight or how many times you went to the toilet today – just give your customers something human they can relate to. If you took part in a fun run at the weekend, why not talk about it on your social media? Talk about something funny your child or pet did… Mention an inspiring member of staff. We all love reading that sort of thing and it gives your company a personality and human face.
