As 2017 starts to edge closer to an end, it’s time to take stock of your business’s online marketing strategy.
What has worked this year in your digital marketing exploits and what has been a bit of a flop?
By looking back over the year, you can start to effectively plan your strategy for 2018.
All your online activity comes conveniently packaged with built-in statistics these days, so there is no excuse for not having the information you need at your fingertips. Use tools such as Google Analytics and the statistics on Facebook and Twitter, for example, to find out viewing figures, times and demographics, what has generated the most interest and so on.
A good place to start is by looking at your website. Has it performed as effectively as you need it to? Do you attract people to your website? Which pages are more popular? How long are people spending on your website pages?
For example, the purpose of your home page is not only to give people a little snapshot of who you are and what you offer, but also to direct people to other pages of your site, so is it doing this? Is your audience moving on to look at your products page, your contact/find us page or your prices?
Another good way to analyse your website is to make a list of all its page titles and ask yourself what their purpose is. If you have a gallery page, what is its purpose and is it fulfilling that purpose? Does your about us page interest people or is it a page that has been sitting there and never getting looked at? If your website statistics are disappointing, maybe 2018 is time for a change/refresh. You can’t afford to have an idle website these days.
Moving on to your social media. How much time have you spent on that this year and is it time well spent? Do you know how to use these platforms to generate interest in your business or are you just wildly posting away in the dark? Looking at the interest and interaction rates on your posts will give you an idea if you are moving in the right direction or whether you need some advice.
With every year that passes, technology and digital marketing develops and changes the rules. There are professionals making a career out of this so it is worth making sure you have the right expertise so your business can keep up in 2018.
