FAQ234 | This is due to the configuration of your old modem, it was set to always report the DTE communications speed rather than the true connect speed on the telephone line. In reality no modem can connect at a speed higher than its maximum rated speed. A 28,800 can only connect at a maximum speed of 28,800 and a 33,600 can connect at a maximum speed of 33,600, etc.You may find at times the connect speed reported by your dial-up connection will be mistakenly reported as the DTE value (115,200). In other words, your 33,600 bps connection might be mistakenly reported as a 115,200 bps connection. If you do experience this, it would be advisable for you to download the latest drivers from the driver database section of the Infoserve.com website at http://www.infoserve.com. If you have a computer running Windows 95, Windows 98, or NT4 please download the file Pace_Modem_Drivers. If you have a Mac, please download the latest Mac script file. |
