Why does the video image appear smooth when in preview mode but is very jerky as soon as I try to capture the video to a file using my PCI capture device?

FAQ137

It must be appreciated that capturing audio/video requires a considerable amount of processing power.
To minimise the amount of hard disk space used, the application software normally performs realtime compression on the data being captured.
Due to the realtime compression which involves complex floating point operations, we have found that some CPUs are better at performing these floating point operations (Intel and AMD) than others.

To improve the frame capture rate, try lowering the display resolution and image quality.
You can also turn off realtime compression or disabling audio.
*NOTE* Disabling realtime compression will result in large files being created.
