Why will Windows 95/98 not detect new hardware when my Pace USB Camera is attached to my computer?

FAQ121

Due to Plug and Play nature of USB devices, Windows 95 and 98 will automatically recognise the Camera when it is connected to the computer. If this doesn't happen it points to either a problem with the USB hardware on the computer or a problem with the camera.
Click on the START button, click on SETTINGS, then click on CONTROL PANEL.
Double click on the SYSTEM control panel, select the tab for DEVICE MANAGER.

Locate an item which says Universal Serial Bus Controller. If this doesn't appear then the USB hardware within the PC has a problem. You will need to contact the Manufacturers of the computer for further help.
If the Universal Serial Bus Controller option does appear expand this section by clicking on the Plus [+] and check that there are no Yellow or Red symbols next to any of the USB Devices. If there are you will need to contact the Manufacturers of the computer.
If the USB Controller is working OK, and you have 2 USB ports on the same computer, try connecting the USB Camera to the other port. If this still fails, and you have access to an alternative computer with USB support try testing your camera on the other computer.
