Pace Products Driver Database
The technical background of Infoserve grew out of designing and
supporting the Pace range of computer peripherals. As part of our
ongoing help to owners of these products, Infoserve maintains a

The technical help section has the latest drivers for the range
of Pace computer peripherals. You will also find a technical Questions
and Answers database to help solve any problems you may have with
your equipment. These resources are provided as a service to customers
of PMC Electronics limited in good faith. However, we are unable

| Win XP inf and Pace Solo specific version of PhoneTools |
|
Summary: The file mdmsolo.zip is a compressed achive which contains a single installation/configuration file for the Pace 56 Solo modem called mdmsolo.inf. This inf file tells Windows XP or 2000 about the modems capabilities and enables it to function fully (with working Caller ID).
Instructions: Once you have extracted this inner inf file (using any suitable application - Windows XP has one built in that will do the job), this configuration file is used to install a Pace 56 Solo modem under the Windows XP or 2000 operating system. Although both of these operating systems have native built in support for the Pace 56 Solo, Caller ID does not work using the native mdmpace.inf file included in Windows. To install the inf (once you've already downloaded and extracted the file), you will need to first uninstall the modem from Windows using Control Panel (either Device Manager or the Windows XP Phone and Modem Options Control Panel icons allow this). Then you can delete mdmpace.inf if no longer needed for other models of Pace modem and put the mdmsolo.inf into the folder where all your Windows inf files are stored (commonly C:\Windows\inf for Windows XP or C:\WinNT\inf for Windows 2000). Note that these folders are hidden so you will need to configure Windows Explorer to be able to see hidden files in order to view them. Then when you reboot the PC the Pace 56 Solo should be automatically redetected. There will be a warning about the driver being unsigned but dont worry about this and continue on. A further Half Duplex Audio driver will be installed automatically and then it should all be all ready to go. You can test that the modem is correctly installed by querying the modem on its properties/diagnostics tab. After a few seconds various AT commands and the modems responses should appear in the applicable window.
Once the modem is correctly installed using this inf, the next step is to install compatible application software.
The version of PhoneTools 2 which originally came with the Pace 56 Solo is not Windows XP or 2000 compatible and will not function correctly under these operating systems.
Summary: This newer version of Classic PhoneTools looks almost identical to PhoneTools 2 but will work perfectly under Windows XP or 2000 operating systems. Note that this program will only function with supported 56 k Pace Modems and not other brands.
Installation: To install it, all you need to do is extract the contents of the Phone Tools zip file into a temporary working folder and then run the file setup.exe by double clicking it. The installation program should then run through to completion and you'll have a fully functioning Pace 56 Solo under Windows XP.
